Stefan Willitsch is the professor of Department of Chemistry at University of Basel. He obtained his doctorate from Department of Chemistry, ETH Zurich.He has been working on exploring the unusual properties of cold molecules and ions and their various applications in both chemistry and physics.

摘要:

The recent progress in the preparation of neutral molecules and ions at temperatures close to the absolute zero point has paved the way for a range of new research directions at the interface between chemistry and physics. Ensembles of cold, spatially localized ions in traps, often referred to as Coulomb crystals , are particularly attractive systems in this context in which it is possible to observe, manipulate and control single isolated particles under precisely controlled conditions. In the lecture, we will give an overview over experimental methods used in this field and discuss a range of applications including molecular-ion quantum technologies, precision spectroscopic measurements and cold chemistry and collisions.
